FROM STORAGE TO BAKERY: The Zephyr Garage Transformation

In June 2025, we began the transformation of a simple two car garage to become the home of Rise Again Bread, a neighborhood bakery with a purpose.

The disorganized storage for ministry supplies and bagged up clothing for current…and former residents, was cleared out, cleaned up, and outfitted with equipment for teaching baking and producing enough bread to employ the residents; a fully operational micro-bakery with formerly unhoused men and women baking hundreds of loaves a day.

This is more than a renovation. It’s a taste of resurrection.

What was once a forgotten storage space transformed into —thanks to generous sponsors, determined hands, and a lot of prayer— a hub of purpose and productivity.

We were thrilled to share the official beginning of baking at the new Zephyr Street location of Rise Again Bread. Our residents—formerly unhoused, now rebuilding—stepped into the space to shape loaves, learn new rhythms, and reclaim their future.

It wasn’t easy. But every challenge was met with quiet resolve—and more than a few laughs. (Ask anyone who helped haul the mixer down the driveway in the Houston heat.)

But we made it, and we are ready to continue the journey.

On June 8th, we celebrated the official launch of the new Rise Again Bread garage bakery—fittingly held on Pentecost Sunday, the day in Acts 2 when the Holy Spirit was poured out and the Church was born.

Former and current residents welcomed mentors and longtime supporters into the newly transformed garage for a tour and live bread-making demonstration. Later, we broke fresh bread together and read from Acts 2, which ends:

“Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts…”

This wasn’t just a facility launch. It was a moment of spiritual renewal—a glimpse of how this bakery can become a place of shared life, gospel witness, and real economic opportunity for those rebuilding their lives.

In the coming months, we hope to build new partnerships with churches and businesses who want to support the mission—and create pathways for residents to sell bread directly, growing small businesses rooted in story and transformation.

Thank you to everyone who helped us reach this moment.
